I know this is a time of great concern for you. I remember those days just like they happened yesterday. My son's hearing loss was due to many ear infections and fluid in the ear. I guess it runs in the family as I and many of my relatives also had the same problem. In kindergarten, the doctor decided to put tubes in his ears. The day of the surgury went very well and after we left the hospital, we stopped at his favorite resturant. We sat their for a few minutes and you could tell something was bothering him. He was hearing a whole new world and wanted to know why everyone was talking so load and the people working there was making so much noisy with the dishes. I guess before the tubes, his hearing was so bad he didn't hear background noises.
There were many struggles along the way and another set of tubes and his anoids taken out in the fourth grade, but at least for us there was an end at the end of the tunnel. We also discovered in sixth grade he was color blind. Who knows how long he was like that.
I just wanted to let you know that though speech therphy and working with the teachers, my son is a very successful teenager and I am sure the same thing will happen with your daughter. Just keep on searching for the right answers and there will be success at the end of the tunnel.
