My dog has similar - nearly identical - symptoms, including a very running nose, occasionally producing massive quantities of snot (sorry). The runny nose part has been going on for 3 years. The coughing, wheezing, choking, for about 10 months. He never has an accompanying increase in body temperature.
We originally thought it was allergies, then pneumonia, and have given massive amounts of antibiotics. Prednisone is not an option for us because he is on rimadyl - which he needs desperately. but antibiotics no longer do any good. He may have a combination of asthma and allergies, though we live in a clean, clear beach community in the Bay Area. We also switched him to raw foods (non-commercial) and this helps. So does benadryl and chlorpheniramine (another antihistamine) but he's really having a tough time right now. I am grateful to hear of a new possibility and would like to stay in touch.
Btw, he is 12 years. His asthma onset would have been at age 11.????
Thank you so much,
Carole
