List of Ingredients

3 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
12 ounces beer
2 tablespoons melted butter

Recipe

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Butter a loaf pan and set aside. In a large bowl,
combine the flour, sugar, and beer and mix well. The
mixture should be sticky. Pour into the loaf pan and
bake for 55 minutes. At the last 3 minutes of baking,
remove from oven, brush the top of the loaf with butter
and return to oven

Here's my grandmother's recipe. I love this bread--it's a very heavy bread, and a thick slice fresh from the oven with some strawberry jam is pure heaven! This is an excellant bread to cut in thick slices and toast and smear with butter. YUM!!
Grandma Young's Beer Bread

3 cups self-rising flour
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 (12 oz)can of beer

Mix all together into a dough. Put into a well greased, small loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Turn out onto a cake rack and brush with melted butter.

The crust will look like a block of wood but the texture is like cake and the aroma is wonderful!
