CONEY ISLANDS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12 frankfurters
12 buns
chopped onion

Coney Sauce:
1/2 lb. ground beef
2 to 3 tamales in tomato sauce
1/2 tsp. Accent
1/4 c. chopped onions
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
1/4 c. water
1/2 tsp. salt
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. chili powder

Brown ground beef slowly breaking up until fine. Mash the tamales with a fork. Add to mixture.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer uncovered 10 minutes. Makes
sauce for 12 Coney Islands. Heat franks and place in buns.
Smear on mustard and spoon on onions, then Coney Sauce.
As I was growing up in the city of Manitowoc, there was
a popular restaurant, operated by a Greek family, named Coney
Island. They were famous for their Coney Island's, especially
their secret sauce.
