70 year old recipe for Deepfried Okra

Deepfried Okra
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heat 3 cups oil in large pot.
Now 3 cups cut okra
2 cups cup up small pieces green tomatoes
1/2 cup cup up small onion pieces
mix with hands, add 1 large egg, mix with fork
salt and pepper to taste, mix adding selfrising
flour to coat well, now spoon enough okra mix to cover the pan bottom with the hot oil and fry on high, donot turn till you see the bottom is
medium to dark brown, turn and brown the other side. Repeat till all
okra is fried, placing in a strainer to remove all the oil and
then to a paper towel. This is a recipes in our family for 70 years.
enjoyed often.
*********Sometimes I add a medium yellow squash diced up in the mixture
before I add the egg. It is good also and doesnot change the flavor and
allows me to enjoy my squash too...........................
