Poppy Seed Hungarian Style Cookies


Makes 2 dozen

Cook Time: 25 Minutes


Ingredients
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 1/4 cups poppy seeds
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 lemon,or orange- juiced
2/3 cup maple flavored syrup

Directions
1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2 In a small saucepan over medium heat combine cream and poppy seeds; do not boil.
3 In a medium bowl combine flour, baking soda and cinnamon. Stir in butter, lemon juice and syrup. Mix well and add cream mixture.
4 Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet.
5 Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.


Makes 2 dozen
