Hamburger Steak

1 pound hamburger or ground sirloin
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 slices bread, crumbled
1/2 cup cooking oil (enough to come up half way on the sides of a steak in the pan)

Put oil in skillet to heat on medium.

Crumble meat in large mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients except oil. Mix well.

Clean hands are perfect for this task. Roll enough mixture for one steak into a ball
in your hands. It will be about the size of a baseball. In your hands pat out until
about 1/2 inch thick. Cook on each side for approximately 5-10 minutes.

Hamburger Steak Gravy

7 to 8 tablespoons of oil (nearly 1/2 cup) in which hamburger steak was cooked
4 tablespoons flour
1-3/4 cups milk

Add saved oil to the skillet where hamburger steak was cooked to make 7 tablespoons.
Leave browned crusts from hamburger steak in skillet. When the skillet is very hot,
slowly add flour stirring constantly. Add salt and pepper. Stir until brown. Add milk
stirring constantly until thick. As the gravy is stirred loosen any stuck particles on
the bottom of the skillet.
