Shoo Fly Pie

1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch)

Crumb Topping:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt

Liquid Bottom:
1 cup boiling water
1 cup light molasses
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg, beaten

Mix first three ingredients together, using a pastry blender, until very fine. Set aside. Add water to
molasses, then soda. Add egg and pour into unbaked pie crust - deep pan is preferable. Using a
large spoon, mix the crumb mixture well into the molasses filling. Bake in moderate oven at 325
degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Use 9- or 10-inch pie pan.
