: : Do dogs get asthma and, if so, what are the symptoms, etc.? My dog, an Australian Shepherd, had been panting a lot and has congestion-type problems lately. The vet has performed upper respiratory and heart exams, including heart ultrasound and all looks well. I am currently going in for a trachial wash, in the next attempt to find out what is wrong with him. It just occurred to me to research asthma because of the panting/breathing problems he seems to be experiencing.
I DO believe that my 7 year old maltipoo has asthma. It is awful when she wheezes and acts as though she is going to pass out from the strain. We try to sooth her and calm her. It seems to be allergy related because it is really bad this time of year. She has had this problem ever since she has been born, but it seems to be getting worse. I don't want to drug her up, but I'm afraid she may die. It can go on for several minutes sometimes. If she gets too excited(happy or bad)it sets it off too. Don't they have a doggy inhaler or something to just treat the immediate situation? Surely they do.
