Bravo!! The trash bag trick works wonders. My daughter is only 7 and it works. Her dad came up with putting a box by her door in her room and any time he finds things around the house that belong to her, he puts them in the box. She can also put anything in her room in the box, as long as it doesn't overflow, for a quick tidy up. The catch is that every Friday, whatever is left in the box when dad gets home gets thrown away. (We do take the time to sort through the box and store anything of importance in the attic) It has done wonders, now all you have to do is mention the trash bag and she knows to clean up or have a lot to do Friday after school.
PS Don't worry - we were "the meanist mom and dad in the world" for only a few weeks
