Gumnut,

Check out the mailing list group. It offers excellent support. Mail lists are full of people just like yourself, who need to know what to ask before they go into a meeting. I know a diagnosis, or even suspicion, of autism is frightening. Remember, you are your child's best advocate and fight for what you know is right for her. I fought for my son, wouldn't let him be segregated from his peers. He has learned to cope and compensate for his differences and leads a normal life for a boy his age. Sure, there are a few things that still bug him - he can't stand to be barefoot, too much sensation on his feet for one, but other than that, he's like any other boy. He has learned to compensate for those things that upset him. He has self-calming techniques that aren't obvious to others. He's learned to control his outbursts by counting to 10, 20 or 50. It took a lot of work by everyone, but he's going to be able to function just like everyone else in society. I pray the same for your daughter. Things might get rougher for a time as you try to figure out how to help her, but remember that things will get better.

Off the subject but related. I recently read an article about a mom who "cured" her son's autism which was severe. She took him off all dairy and wheat products. You might look into that also. I tried taking my son off dairy but it didn't seem to make a difference. I also tried B-6 supplements, again, I didn't see much difference but other parents did with their children.
