Just a note for anyone interested. I made the flaxseed heating pad for my son with lavender. He takes it to bed each night (5 yrs old). After many heatings (1-2mins) I sent him to bed. He came out to tell me that it was getting stinky. I checked the bag and found that it had burnt in several spots through the linen lining and the slipcover. The fact that I sent my son to bed with something that was obviously smoldering scared me to death. I took the bag apart and saw no evidence of the lavender having burnt. Not sure what caused it.
