This works some of the time:
Make a trinket box... a box full of odds and ends of laces,rickrack, fabric pieces, anything that is bigger than their mouth!..A little glue and kids can add this stuff to "cards", Lids for magnets, or glue to card board frames(that can be cut from cereal boxes). Even macaroni, or macaroni alphabet letters are fun!
