Christmas Elves

At Halloween, people were 'boo'ing friends. They left a basket of goodies (candy, a little decoration, something special, etc) with a little note. The receiver was then suppose to 'boo' two more friends within the next 24 hours. This was done sort of 'sneakily,' with the giver NOT leaving his/her name. . .remaining anonymous. Once a person was 'boo'd, they would leave a little ghost in their window or on their door. . .that was to signify that they had already been boo'd (spooked), and couldn't be boo'd (spooked) again.

Some time ago (several years) I had read of something similar done during the Christmas holidays. It was something to do with elves, and their was a little poem explaining the little procedure/game. The receiver would put a little elf in his/her window or on the door, and then 'elf' somebody else. I can't remember any of the specifics. I especially need to find the poem/story that went with it.

Can anybody help???
