I know how. I've done it before.
Leave it on overnight, all day, or however long you can stand it. Don't add conditioner to the stuff, it makes it go quicker. The way to make it last the longest is this:
2 packets UNSWEETENED (:)) kool-aid
+
5 cups warm water
+
old towel
+
old clothes
+
old bowl
=
Good hair. (hehe)

Rub vaseline on your forehead, ears, and neck first. This is so your skin doesn't get stained.

Dip your head in the 2 packets and 5 cups warm water mixture for 5 minutes. Make sure you get every inch of your hair. Then put on a shower cap and leave it in overnight or all day.

If your son's hair is oily, have him wash it with baking soda first. This strips the hair of natural oils and makes it dry so the color takes very nicely.

It'll last 1-3 weeks, no result is guarenteed.

Just a small note here: The Kool-Aid Company's official position on dying your hair with Kool-Aid is quote "I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole." You might want to know that. I do it because I'm too cheap to get some real dye, lol. But sometimes it works.

Just so you know.

:P
