I don't think its the entire public school system that has failed. I think too many parents sit back and let the system fail. Get involved. If you are unhappy with the school(s) your child(ren) are attending then do something to change it. Form a parents group and get the community involved. Bring your concerns to city and county leaders. Make your concerns their issue. Remember, elected officals don't like unemployment. Get your issues on the ballot. Make the system work for and not against you. If your local officals don't act take your issue to the state congress and on to the governor. Doing nothing and expecting something to change isn't going to bring much satisfaction. We are lucky enough to live in an area with a small school system and a local high school ranked #1 in the state. We didn't get this system by doing nothing. When you have the choice to vote for an increase in taxes to aid your schools vote yes instead of moaning about more taxes. When teachers don't measure up to expectation go to the school board and get rid of them. Negative websites and angry postings only feed the dissatisfaction and both do nothing to bring about change. Take positive rather than negative action.
