Katherine:

I quite agree with you.

Earrings are superficial, like them, dislike them. It's character that counts. (On your comment about the way people are inwardly, Ephesians 3.23 says something comparable.)

I can quite understand how your male 16 year old 'HAD TO HAVE HIS EARS PIERCED'! Although it's their call, parents who seriously object should be aware of just how many teens male and female get it done. They should also be aware of just how many parents get used to it once it's been done (and maybe even get to like it...).

To parents of a teen boy: if he wants to, let him go for it. Pick your battles. Earrings are a side-issue.

: Ear piercing is such a minor issue. I can't believe all the e-mails on this topic. Perhaps it is because we have dealt with far more serious issues with our male 16 year old. He too HAD TO HAVE HIS EARS PIERCED BECAUSE HIS FRIENDS WERE. We preferred piercing to a tattoo. It was his responsibility to pay for this and to keep his ears clean. Too bad it takes so long for teenagers to realize that it's NOT what you look like on the outside that matters, it's who you are inside and how you feel that matters.
