: Hello. First-time poster here. I'm hoping there are some parents on this board who have seen their child through the SATs? If so, could you please share tips on what kinds of books, classes, study tools you chose? Any lessons you learned that you wish you had known before? Anything to avoid?

: Hope this make sense, and thanks in advance.

Patricia,

My number 1 son crammed for his sat at the last minute and his scores reflected this. My daughter, who is a year behind him, took a cue from this and decided to take a more measured approach, studying over a period of several months, and we had her take a prep course from princeton review. And though her grades were comparable to her brother's, she did better than he when it came to the sat scores. So I would say preparation is key, there are practice tests at the princetonreview site that could at least give you an idea of your child's strength and weaknesses, and in what areas he/she should focus their attention.
