Personally, I'd go back to the counselor, family therapy though, not individual. Well adjusted peolpe do not use drugs (even pot). Find out the reasons your son lost interest in life and appears to have given up. You aren't going to change him overnight. Be prepared going in for the long haul.
I don't think I'd kick him out, at least not until he is out of school. From a social work point of view, sending him out on his own when he is quite obviously ill prepared will only create more chaos in his life.
Work with him, not against him.
