This year, I am making Gingerbread in a Jar for all of our teachers and my close friends. I did some searching and found 2 websites that list tons of recipes (I'll list them below). The idea is, you take a wide mouth pint or half-pint canning car, sterilize it, and bake a cake in it. Then, you seal while it's still hot. Decorate the lid, attach a cute tag, and voila! a unique, inexpensive gift! I bought canning jars at the hardware store for about $8 for 12 jars. Then I went to the fabric store and bought a yard of christmas print fabric, some gold ribbon and trimmings. Once the cake is done cooking, you put the lid on and screw on the outer lid. Once the jar has cooled, take off the outer lid and cut a circle of fabric 3inches larger than the lid. Put some cottonballs on the lid, place the fabric over top and screw on the outer lid. Then decorate around the edge with ribbon and decorations. Then I'm attaching a tag made of brown construction paper cut out like a gingerbread man with the instructions (keep the jar in a cool, dark place and eat within 6 months. check the lid regularly to be sure it stays sealed and doesn't move up and down or anything.) I'm not going to print out the whole recipe here.. go check out these websites for tons of great ideas and recipes!! Beth
